Multidisciplinary Methods for Exploring Organizations

Introducing Research Methods

This website is designed to introduce people to different approaches for conducting research.  It is part of the program in Human Dimensions of Organizations at the University of Texas at Austin.  Our aim is also to show how research can be applied in the workplace to make organizations operate better.  Although this website has been developed in conjunction with the classes HDO380: Qualitative Research Methods and HDO320: Multidisciplinary Methods for Exploring Organizations it is useful for anyone interested in improving organizational efficiency, employee performance, or simply understanding better how organizations work.

What is research?

Research is systematic investigation for the purpose of answering a question or showing a hypothesis to be either true or false.  Research involves gathering data through careful planning and detailed analysis of data in order to establish facts and draw conclusions.

Take a look at this presentation to get a better understanding of different approaches to research.
